Tank Reaper vs CJ Foster
Chester/Dobbie vs Mikami/Ryan Daniels
Logan/Jack of Blades vs Torture/Corey Black
Dake Ken vs Johnny Reb
Running by No Doubt plays and Slam is on the air! The cameras pan around the fans in attendance, many of which are wearing ToT T-shirts and holding up ToT signs. We go to the announcers.
Zach Davis: I don't even know how to start off this show.
Shannan Lerch: THE TEAM OF TREACHERY IS BACK!
Shannan is wearing a slutty ToT tube top.
Zach Davis: Apparently so. At the end of Slam last week, Jack of Blades and Logan both emerged from body bags... wearing ToT T-shirts. I don't believe this.
Shannan Lerch: Yay!
Zach Davis: I'm just going to try and go on like this is a normal Slam. Which isn't true, because we actually have a great main event: Dake Ken vs Johnny Reb for the World Title contendership.
Shannan Lerch: Last week, these two fought a great match. Unfortunatly, Johnny Reb ended up pinning Dake Ken, while Dake Ken was pinning Chris Avery. An odd situation, but tonight we find out the real number one contender.
Zach Davis: We also have the first shot in the war... Logan and Jack of Blades, the Team of Treachery, facing Torture and Corey Black.
Shannan Lerch: I haven't spoken to Torture or Black, but I'm going to guess they hate having the ToT back as much as anyone.
Zach Davis: Indeed. Who knows what this spells for the World Title? Not to mention that both Torture and Black have to watch out for Rick Mad as well, who has been stalking them under the guise of Creeping Death.
Shannan Lerch: Yeah, who knows what the hell is up with that.
Zach Davis: Perhaps if Torture and Black can defeat Logan and Blades tonight, that'll be the end of it. It'll end this whole ToT nonsense and we can get WCF back on track. If those two can work together.
Shannan Lerch: In another tag match, we have Mikami and Ryan Daniels teaming up to face Chester and Dobbie.
Zach Davis: Mikami has not been too quiet about his distate for Ryan Daniels, so I'm not sure if they'll be able to work together to defeat the only two members of the Dark Side left. We will see.
Shannan Lerch: And in our opening match, we have Tank Reaper once again up against CJ Foster... but this time, in an MMA style match!
Seth Lerch/Jayson Stasiak Segment
The scene opens up in Seth Lerch's office. Seth is sitting there, doing some paperwork. Jayson Stasiak enters, and Seth looks up, smiling. He stands up and puts out his hand.
Seth Lerch: Jayson! So good to see you.
Jayson doesn't shake Seth's hand, which Seth doesn't seem to care about. Seth sits down, as does Jayson.
Seth Lerch: Jayson, look. I'll be honest with you. You know as well as anyone that Gravedigger had this company going towards financial ruin, and now it is my job to bring it back. And to do that, I need stars. And I have one star that is currently under contract, yet refusing to return my calls or appear on my show. That star is Gravedigger.
Jayson Stasiak: And.. you called me.. why?
Seth Lerch: I'll cut to the chase. If Gravedigger doesn't come back, I've talked to my lawyers -
Jayson Stasiak: The same lawyers that wrote up the horrible, horrible contracts that allowed us to steal WCF right out from under your nose?
Seth Lerch: No, no, they have all been fired, trust me. NEW lawyers, competent lawyers. And I have a variety of legal options to pursue regarding Gravedigger's breach of contract.
Jayson Stasiak: Ha! Like Gravedigger would care. Firstly, he has plenty of money, thanks to your company. Secondly, legal action against him would just further drain WCF's finances and its bank account. He's probably HOPING for a lawsuit.
Seth's good mood seems to go down a little.
Jayson Stasiak: Listen, Seth. WCF has been running for a few months now, and everyone expects it to close anyway. Everyone knows you can't keep this place running, why bother? Gravedigger just slightly sped up the inevitable. WCF is going to close, and WCF is going to go bankrupt. You can't turn this ship around fast enough and you know it.
Seth stands up, as does Jayson, and Seth is right in Jayson's face. Jayson stands his ground, and Seth looks like he's about to hit him.. until Seth starts laughing a bit. A look of confusion crosses Jayson's face, and Seth sits back down.
Seth Lerch: Very well. Jayson, may I remind you that while Gravedigger and his brother Chester are under contract, YOU are under contract as well?
Jayson Stasiak: Yeah, great. See if I care, I'm a manager to Dobbie and Chester. I'm not a wrestler, so don't even think about forcing me into a bunch of matches or something.
Seth Lerch: Not what I was thinking! Jayson, you're going to help get WCF into the black.
Jayson Stasiak: But Gravedigger hates the black!
Seth Lerch: I know, I know. But I have a great idea, and I need you for it, so I'm glad we had this little talk. I'll see you about all of this in the next few days.
Jayson Stasiak: Ugh.. I can't wait. Fine. I bet you have more important things to worry about, anyway...
Jayson gets up and begins to walk out the door.
Jayson Stasiak: Like the Team of Treachery.
The door slams shut, leaving Seth alone in his office.
Tank Reaper vs CJ Foster
Ring crews complete the final touches on the MMA-style cage on the inside of the ropes in the ring. Leaving the cage in a square-fashion, it stands five feet tall and is normal-MMA cage style. Foster is already in the ring with Shane Spain on the outside of the ring as his 'trainer'. Tank Reaper is on his way down to the ring when he gets into the cage and awaits for the bell.
Zach Davis: Mentioned before, this match is not a wrestling match but rather a mixed martial arts match.
Shannan Lerch: Not discrediting martial arts, but I'm sure both of these men will just knock the crap out of each other.
Zach Davis: Both men wearing gloves that only protect the knuckles, and both men look ready to go!
They both come out of the corner and circle quickly before Foster attacks first putting Tank Reaper up against the cage where he tries to land as many right hands as he can, however Tank Reaper looks sharp in the defense area. A few more right hands land though, and Reaper looks a bit shaken. Reaper shoves Foster off of him and attacks with his own lefts and rights. Tank throws up a knee to the jaw of Foster which reels him back, and Tank quick steps into a huge left boot right to the face of Foster. CJ spins three hundred and sixty degrees where Tank Reaper lands a huge right hand unprotected against Fosters face. Foster looks dazed when Tank picks him up by the throat with both hands and lifts him into the air, quickly spins and spinebusters/chokeslams him down to the mat as Tank lands on his knees with him, the ref breaks Tank away from the fallen Foster.
Zach Davis: OH WOW!
Shane Spain is yelling at Foster to get up but Foster now bleeding from both eyes, and his mouth, and the ref calls it and raises Tank Reapers hand into the air! Foster looks to be basically done forever, and Tank begins to celebrate when Shane Spain jumps over the cage and begins attacking Tank from behind. He turns Tank around and begins leveling him with left and right hands. Shane throws Tank across the ring into the corner into the cage. Tank sits still as Shane comes running across and leaps into the air where Tank catches him and slams him down in a spinebuster move. Shane looks out when Tank stands up and celebrates! The crowd goes crazy for Tank who then catches a microphone from the ring side announcer.
Tank Reaper: Shane, I have a new message for you. I talked to Seth Lerch and he told me ten minutes ago that if I KO'ed your fake friend here, that I could get a match with you next week on Monday Night Slam!
Tank Reaper: Fitting as next week we will have a one on one match... inside... A STEEL CAGE!
Tank Reaper: Now wheres Matroshka? I'm getting a chubby just thinking about destroying human bodies.
Reaper throws the mic down to the crowds delight and walks up the ramp as the WCF officials clean up Fosters mess, Shane Spain's near lifeless body, and begin to take a part the MMA cage on the ring.
Zach Davis: Crazy start to Slam.
Shannan Lerch: You heard it here first, next week an end all to end all, Shane Spain vs Tank Reaper in a cage match. Shane can't escape that one!
Zach Davis: And we still have a lot to cover on tonight's Slam! Let's continue..
The scene opens up as Chester and Dobbie are sitting in the lockerroom getting ready for their match. Dobbie is lacing up his boots while Chester is pacing back and forth with a cell phone up to his ear. He suddenly talks into it.
Chester: John, call me back man. I've been trying to get a hold of you since we lost the match. No one has seen you. No one has heard from you. Jessie called Mom and said everything was ok but then hung up on her after that. What's the deal man??
Chester hangs up the phone. Dobbie looks up from his boots.
Dobbie: Digger still ain't talkin to anyone?
Chester: No, I think that's the 20th time I've called his phone since the pay-per-view.
Dobbie: Why's Digger bein a fake-ass bustah?
Dobbie stands up and Chester pushes him into a nearby locker.
Chester: Watch your mouth, Dobbie. My brother isn't a fake ass bustah.
Dobbie holds his hands up.
Dobbie: Chill homie. Dobbie ain't mean nothing by it. Dobbie got mad love fo yo brotha from the same motha. So what are we going to do?
Chester: We do what we always do. We go out there and win. We go out there and kick ass. My brother will show up when the time is right. He always has a plan.
Dobbie puts his arm around Chester who looks at him.
Dobbie: Then mah dood, let's go kick they ass in the ring. Imma start poppin and lockin it and plant a foot in them bitches faces.
Chester nods and walks out of the lockerroom with Dobbie. The camera zooms in on Chester's silent cell phone as the scene fades to black.
Chester/Dobbie vs Mikami/Ryan Daniels
The lights go out and Mikami's double-M logo appears on the JumboTron as "The Beast" by Tech N9ne plays, starting at the first chorus. The lights turn back on but are now red, revealing Mikami standing at the top of the ramp. He runs down the ramp, dives into the ring and then jumps back up to his feet. Before anyone else can come out, he grabs the microphone from a stunned announcer.
Mikami: I am sorry that I must delay the start of this match, but what we have to talk about is potentially much more important.
Zach Davis: Who's "we"?
Shannan Lerch: Maybe he thinks he's royalty now.
Mikami: I believe that this match was made in an effort to control me. Seth Lerch does not want to see me perform my duty. Seth Lerch does not want to see his top superstars injured at my hands. To Seth Lerch, revenue is more important than justice.
Zach Davis: He may go a bit overboard, but in this case, guilty as charged.
Shannan Lerch: Quiet, or else he'll take that literally.
Mikami: So to Seth Lerch I say, fire me. Come out here right now, and terminate my employment with your company.
Zach Davis: He's really gone over the edge now.
Shannan Lerch: As opposed to before, when he was just kinda crazy?
Mikami: Come on Seth, do it. I almost crippled Logan and Chris Avery.
Nothing happens. Mikami smiles.
Mikami: Of course, we both know that you are unable to fire me. That contract I have says that you can not fire me, for any reason, ever.
Zach Davis: What? That's crazy!
Shannan Lerch: Yeah, it's like even if he punted the boss in the head, and then did the same to all of his family members, no one could touch him! Weird!
Mikami: And you have no idea how that happened. And that is why I am in this match. You have no idea what is going on, and you want to just keep me controlled. Keep me busy. That is not going to work. And since you refuse to come out here and face me, I am going to embarrass you in front of everyone here. I am going to tell them why you can not control me, and I am going to tell them the idiotic thing you did that proves you are not fit to run the WCF. I am going to tell them what you did that has earned you the top spot on my list. The punishment list. WCF fans, all the wrestlers in the back, Seth Lerch betrayed you with his incompetence. Seth Lerch...
Suddenly, Mikami crumples to the ground, having been knocked down from behind. Dobbie stands over him. Chester is already standing on the apron and Ryan Daniels dashes out from the back as the bell rings.
Zach Davis: Wow we were all apparently so focused on Mikami's promo in the ring that we didn't even notice Chester and Dobbie sneak down to the ring and attack him.
Dobbie immediately goes for a pin, but Mikami kicks out before the ref can even get into position. Mikami starts to get up but falls down in pain as Dobbie hits him in the back with a swift kick. Dobbie picks up Mikami and irish whips him across the ring. Mikami bounces off the other side and is met with a picture perfect dropkick. Mikami is back up and is put down again by another dropkick. Before he can get up, Dobbie grabs his leg and stops away at the inside of it. Dobbie picks up Mikami and irish whips him into the corner where Chester is standing. Dobbie turns and distracts the referee while Chester uses the tag rope to choke Mikami. Ryan Daniels jumps into the ring and goes over there to stop it from happening. Dobbie turns and shoves him into MIkami. They both collide and Daniels falls to the mat. Mikami slowly falls and accidentally headbutts Daniels in the groin.
There's a collective 'oof' from the crowd in attendance. Dobbie walks over and tags in Mikami. Dobbie reaches down and picks up Mikami as the referee tries to get him out of the ring. Chester walks over and both men hook Mikami's arms around their neck and they hit off a double snap suplex on him. Ryan Daniels is getting up on the side of the ring, still hurting from the headbutt as Dobbie gets out onto the apron.
Shannan Lerch: Some good teammwork from Chester and Dobbie here tonight. I'm surprised they can concentrate since even the two of them still haven't heard from Gravedigger.
Zach Davis: That's surprising seeing as how Chester and Gravedigger are actually brothers. Apparently, even the rest of the family hasn't heard from him either.
Chester drops an elbow on Mikami and hooks his leg, but Ryan Daniels breaks up the count at one. The referee starts yelling at him to get out of the ring and Daniels walks over to his corner. Chester picks up Mikami and snap suplexes him to the mat one more time and applies an armbar. The referee checks on Mikami who says he won't give up. Chester eventually lets go of the armbar and gets Mikami onto his feet. Chester irish whips him across the ring. Mikami bounces off, ducks the clothesline attempt and bounces off the other side. Chester is surprised with a cross body block from the Yokohama native. Chester gets up and is hit with a hip toss. Chester sits up and is hit with a nasty kick to the back by Mikami. He taunts the crowd as Chester gets on his feet. Mikami bounces off the ropes, but is met with a kick to the gut. Chester signals for the Morning Star, but Daniels is in the ring. Chester sees this and shoves Mikami down as Daniels goes for a boot. Chester catches him and hits a nasty T-Bone suplex.
Shannan Lerch: Damn.
Mikami is on the top rope and Dobbie climbs into the ring since the referee is tending to Ryan Daniels. Mikami leaps off as Chester turns to look for him. Mikami lands on Chester's shoulders and goes for a Dragon Rana, but Dobbie is there and nails him in the jaw with his fist. Mikami loses his balance and Chester uses the momentum to hit a sit-out powerbomb in the ring. The referee feels the impact on the mat and turns as Chester covers Mikami for the pin. Dobbie gets out of the ring before the referee gets distracted by him.
1...2...kick out by Mikami.
Zach Davis: That was a close one.
Chester gets up and walks over, tagging Dobbie in. Chester signals for the Decapitation.
Zach Davis: If they hit this, the match is definitely over.
Chester grabs Mikami's legs and gets ready to slingshot him to Dobbie for the superkick. Dobbie yells at him that he's ready. Daniels, however, is up and spears Dobbie as he goes for the superkick. Mikami just goes flying across the ring and impacts on his stomach and face. Daniels slides out of the ring and goes to his corner. The referee gets Chester out of the ring. Both Mikami and Dobbie are slowly getting up and the crowd is cheering them on. Mikami starts inching closer to his corner and Dobbie sees this. Dobbie starts to run over, but Mikami dives and makes the tag to Ryan Daniels. Dobbie backs off, but is caught with a kick to the gut and a DDT to the mat. Chester comes running into the ring, but gets a kick to the gut of his own and then tossed through the ropes to the outside. Ryan Daniels picks up Dobbie and hits a suplex. Sensing his opportunity, Daniels jumps to the top. He looks down at Dobbie.. and flies off with the From The Ashes!
Shannan Lerch: This could be it!
Zach Davis: Ryan Daniels gets the win!
The bell rings and Daniels gets his arm raised. Mikami reenters the ring and takes back his United States Title. Daniels looks at him, looks at the Title, and motions around his waist, smile on his face.
Shannan Lerch: I think Daniels looked to prove himself to Mikami by getting the pinfall against Dobbie, which he has accomplished tonight.
Daniels leaves the ring, leaving Mikami with his Title.
Logan steps out of his dressing room, and the crowd instantly goes wild. Some fans cheer, some boo. No one quite knows what to make of him right now. There is a note taped to his door, which he takes off and reads.
You forgot about me but I never forgot about you.
I never forget."
Logan looks at the note, crumples it up and tosses it away.
Logan: What am I, being stalked by a goddamn elephant?
He continues walking, and as he turns a corner he is face to face with Seth Lerch. Again, the crowd pops huge, and the two simply stare each other down for a tense moment.... before Logan walks away and continues down the hallway.
Zach Davis: Gotta wonder what Seth thinks about all of this...
Shannan Lerch: Lately, Seth and Logan have been tight. But it hasn't always been this way... their relationship could go either way, I think.
Zach Davis: Time for tonight's big tag match, though. The World Champion, Torture, teaming with Corey Black, up against... the Team of Treachery.
Logan/Jack of Blades vs Torture/Corey Black
Ennio Morricone's 'Das Duell' begins to play. Simultaneously, a deep crimson envelops the entire arena. The red is dispelled with two sharp pyres of fireworks coming from the ramp. As the pyro clears and the video evolves, the camera pulls to the top of the ramp where Jack of Blades is kneeling in ceremony. Soon after, Jack of Blades moves upwards to his feet and poses as if he were being crucified; his arms leant out, his body forced forwards. At the same time, a red rain of sparks fall from behind him where the curtain lays, adding effect. As the 'rain' dies down, two walls of flame burst from the each side of the ramp and Jack sets down it, his face changing from ecstatic grin to professional glare. When at the ring, he slides through the bottom rope and spends a few moments on the canvas as if establishing the surroundings before charismatically getting to his feet by spinning on his heels. At his feet, he launches himself onto the second rope of a turnbuckle, sideways, and reveals to the crowd a red rose from his trenchcoat pocket, raising it up beyond his head with one hand before catching it in his other and crushing it. This cues a steady stream of rose petals to fall from the ceiling around him as he apes the same crucifix gesture.
A drum beat rolls, it rolls, it rolls, it beats and echoes dying to make the fans ears bleed. Say Anything "Chia-Like, I Shall Grow" BLASTS the speakers. The crowd explode cheering the bastard they love to hate, the Face of Treachery, Logan. He pops out from behind the black curtains marching down the ramp threatening to slap fans on his way, climbing up the ring steps, hopping into the ring, spitting glomps of salvia out into the crowd. Logan climbs the turnbuckle slapping his chest, taunting the crowd, talking generic shit. He then hops off and paces around the ring till his music cuts.
Shannan Lerch: Logan and Blades reformed the ToT just last week. It's unknown what their plans are, but it cannot be good.
The crowd is buzzing, and a spotlight hits somewhere in the crowd. No music, pyro, video, or anything. Standing there is Corey Black, wearing his hoodie with the hood up. He makes his way through the crowd as they cheer him on. Corey then hops the security barricade and rolls into the ring. He throws the devil horns to the crowd, and they do the same. Corey then sits in a corner, waiting for the match to begin.
Shannan Lerch: I've been informed that as of today, Corey Black has been resigned to a contract here at WCF, meaning this match is sanctioned under WCF rules and regulations!
Jamais Vu from Dredg hits the speakers, and the crowd begins to boo. Some hardcore Torture fans cheer. Fireworks go off on the stage as the lights go to black and smoke fills the top of the rampway. Torture steps out from the curtain and stands in the middle of the stage. The smoke clears 20 seconds in, and the crowd boo's even harder. The hardcore fans keep cheering. More boos than most though. Torture walks down the ramp smiling yet focused and intent on beating his opponent. He slides into the ring walks to one of the ring posts and taunts to the crowd. He throws one hand into the air, and his other hand points to his waist as if he's always wearing Championship Gold. He backs down off of the ring post and the lights slowly comeback on.
Zach Davis: The World Champion, having to team with an enemy to fight the enemy.
All four men meet in the center of the ring. Blades and Logan on one side, Torture and Black on the other. Thing is, both Black and Torture have an eye on each other as well as an eye on ToT. Corey Black, however, steps forward and turns, facing Torture.
Zach Davis: No way.
Corey begins removing his hoodie and underneath ... a Team of Treachery shirt! The crowd goes insane with boos. Torture, without a choice, begins throwing punches at all three men. Blades and Logan manage to fight back and back Torture into a corner. Corey Black exits the ring along with Blades, leaving Torture and Logan ... and the bell rings.
Shannan Lerch: I can't believe Corey has joined ToT! He's been their main detractor from, well, the first day!
Logan assaults Torture in the corner while Black and Blades look on. Tort manages to push Logan off and roll to the floor, grab a chair, and slides back in! Logan and the ref both beg Torture off, but he'll have none of it! The crowd is going bananas! Blades slides in behind Tort and eats a face full of chair! The ref calls for the bell already.
Zach Davis: DQ! DQ! Torture will have none of this crap!
Torture rolls out of the ring and escapes a certain beating, yelling "fuck this!" at the top of his lungs as he backs out of the arena. The ToT stands tall in the ring. Logan, Jack of Blades holding his head, and Corey Black.
But the lights go out.
Zach Davis: Oh no, not Rick Mad again!
A few moments pass, and some shuffling is heard in the ring. When the lights come back on, the entire ToT is laid out with Creeping Death masks on!
Shannan Lerch: Mad strikes against the most dominat- wait what is this?
In the ring, one of the bodies is moving. Sitting up. Removing the mask.
Zach Davis: What the fu-?!
Corey Black takes the Creeping Death mask off, smiling!
Shannan Lerch: I ... don't understand!
Corey gets to his feet and looks down upon the ToT before removing his ToT shirt and throwing it at Logan! He smiles and laughs, leaving the ring.
Zach Davis: Guess the ToT membership drive didn't work too well this time.
Corey Black exits to the back, as Logan and Jack of Blades get to their feet, fire in their eyes.
World Title Contendership
Dake Ken vs Johnny Reb
The opening chords of "Bad Company" by Bad Company filter through the arena. The stage and the surrounding area go dark. As the actual lyrics begin, blue lights illuminate a figure dressed in a grey Confederate frock coat and an officer's slouch hat.
Johnny Reb makes his entrance, taunting the fans on the way to the ring. Once inside the ring, he signals for the music to cut off and accepts a microphone from someone just out of sight. Thunderous disapproval echoes through the arena as Johnny raises the mic to his lips, and several moments pass before the crowd settles down enough for him to speak.
Zach Davis: Well, Shannan, this is certainly not a good sign for Johnny Reb. Looks like he’s got something important to say, and the fans don’t want to hear it.
Shannan Lerch: Come on, Zach. What could Reb possibly have to say? Won’t be anything good, I can tell you that.
A few smart marks, way up in the nosebleed seats and no longer drowned out by the larger portion of the audience, begin cheering even more loudly. Johnny glances up at them and shakes his head.
Johnny Reb: All of y’all.... Just... SHUT UP!
This elicits another outburst from the crowd that dies away as quickly as it began.
Johnny Reb: Thank you. Now I got somethin’ to say. An’ a lot of y’all probably ain’t gonna like it. But here it is: Tonight, I face Dake Ken – again.
Cheap pop. Johnny rolls his eyes.
Johnny Reb: Oh, Christ. Enough! This match...should not even be a consideration. You all saw what happened last week. I... defeated... Dake Ken.
The crowd voices their displeasure again.
Johnny Reb: I’ve already qualified as the number one contender for Torture’s World Title. This match... this is a joke.
Reb paces the ring as he speaks.
Johnny Reb: I know what y’all wanna see. ‘Ceptin’ for them three idiots up there...
Here, Johnny points at the aforementioned marks, who cheer at the verbal abuse.
Johnny Reb: ...Every last one of y’all here tonight wants to see me go down for the three-count. I’m the one that’s been here, week in and week out, butsin’ my ass for this. For my shot at the goddamn title. Ken showed up, what? A couple weeks ago, outta nowhere? An’ he expects that title shot to be given to him on the strength of his past performance....
He shakes his head slowly.
Johnny Reb: No. That ain’t how this is gonna play out. I know you can hear me back there, Ken. One more time, you an’ me are gonna clash. One more time, I’m gonna put you down on this canvas. You...can go to the back of the line, an’ wait your turn like everybody else. ‘Cause it’s gonna be me facin’ Torture at Aftermath.
Reb drops the microphone with a dull thud and goes to his corner as the crowd erupts in yet more jeers.
Shannan Lerch: Well, Johnny Reb is certainly confident...
Zach Davis: And why shouldn’t he be, Shannan? In just a few short months, Reb has been given a shot at contendership for both the US Title, and now, the World Title.
Shannan Lerch: If he wins this match. No, Zach, Johnny Reb is shaping up to be a perennial also-ran. He can get the job done, right up until it counts for something.
Zach Davis: Be that as it may, Shannan, his opponent tonight seems to have had an effect on the Inveterate Confederate. I’m almost willing to put the odds in Reb’s favor...
"Bow Down" by Born of Osiris hits on the PA system. The lights dim down as the guitars and drums hit as spot lights focus on the curtain. Dake pops out from behind the curtain with both arms raised. He pauses for a moment and looks around the arena, soaking in the fan reaction, before lowering his arms and starting down the ramp. He slaps a few fans' hands as he makes his way to the ring. He walks over to the steps and quickly walks up them. He plays to the crowd a bit before stepping into the ring and making his way to the far turnbuckle. He hops up onto the second rope and poses to the crowd.
The referee has a hard time keeping the two competitors separated long enough to start the match. Dake Ken is in Johnny Reb’s face, and both are engaged in a heated discussion that ends with Ken slapping Reb. Johnny immediately retaliates with a hard right as the ref impatiently signals for the bell.
Dake Ken takes an early lead in the match, catching Johnny Reb with an elbow, and following up with a vertical suplex. Ken proceeds to taunt Reb while he’s on the mat, applying his boot liberally to Johnny’s ribs for added emphasis.
Shannan Lerch: I hope you don’t have money riding on Johnny Reb tonight, Zach...
More by instinct than any forethought, Johnny manages to catch Dake’s foot and uses his momentum to put him off-balance. Reb is on his feet in an instant, capitalizing on his momentary advantage with a springboard arm drag. Immediately, he locks in a camel clutch.
Zach Davis: Well, I didn’t, but maybe I should, Shannan. Reb is showing an excellent strategy here in this match. Ken has an advantage in both height and weight; the only thing someone like Johnny can do is keep him off his feet and try to wear him down.
Shannan Lerch: Maybe, Zach, but now is not the time to experiment with moves that aren’t a part of his normal repertoire.
Dake Ken powers out easily and now it’s Reb who’s in trouble again as his opponent locks in a sharpshooter. Johnny strains for the ropes, suffering and torment evident in every line of his face. The referee is down on the mat, asking if Johnny wants to tap; Reb shakes his head in fierce negation. He reaches for the ropes again, hand shaking, and finally manages to get a grip on the bottom rope, forcing Ken to relinquish his hold.
Zach Davis: YES! Now that’s what I call determination.
As soon as Dake Ken lets go, Johnny Reb rolls under the bottom rope and stands on the outside, breathing heavily and staring up at his opponent.
Shannan Lerch: Then what do you call that?
Zach Davis: Um... taking a break?
The referee yells at Johnny to get back in the ring; Johnny ignores him, so the ref starts to count...
1 . . .
Shannan Lerch: There’s no breaks in wrestling!
2 . . .
Zach Davis: Dake Ken paces the ring, clearly contemplating going out to retrieve his recalcitrant rival.
3 . . .
Shannan Lerch: Ok, no. No alliteration, not tonight. Looks like Reb’s finally caught his breath. He’s starting to climb up on the ring apron.
4 . . .
Dake Ken is there to welcome him back into the ring, but the Inveterate Confederate has other ideas. He grabs the back of Ken’s head and drops down off the ring apron, bouncing Ken’s chest off the top rope. While his foe is still staggered, Johnny mounts the nearest turnbuckle and executes a moonsault.
Zach Davis: Here’s the cover!
1 . . .
2 . –
Dake Ken gets a shoulder up and shoves Johnny away. With both men back on their feet, Reb tries to regain his momentum, and gets a superkick to the face for his efforts. Johnny staggers backwards, and Dake Ken takes full advantage, knocking Reb to the mat and making a cover of his own!
1 . . .
2 . . .
Shannan Lerch: Damn! I thought it was over. Johnny Reb kicks out, but I don’t think he knows where he is at the moment.
Dake Ken hauls Johnny to his feet and swings a haymaker at him, but Reb ducks it and goes for an eye rake. Johnny wastes no time capitalizing on his momentary advantage, grabbing Dake’s arm and trying for an Irish whip. Ken reverses, and it’s Reb that ends up bouncing off the ropes. But Johnny isn’t through yet. He tries for a clothesline on the rebound. Dake Ken answers with an arm drag, but Johnny Reb springs up again and goes for the ropes. Both men seem to have had the same idea at the same time, and meet in midair.
Zach Davis: Oh! The humanity! Johnny Reb and Dake Ken both went for a crossbody, and I’d have to say, Reb’s going to come off the worse for it.
Shannan Lerch: Well, Dake Ken does have the weight advantage. It’s simple physics, Zach. Law of inertia. Immovable object, unstoppable force, et cetera...
Zach Davis: I’m sure high school students everywhere are taking notes, Shannan. There’s Ken, back on his feet first, but he still looks a little dazed.
Shannan Lerch: He still has the wherewithal to stalk his opponent, though. Reb is still on one knee, definitely looking worse for the wear.
Zach Davis: But he sees Ken coming, and catches him with a low blow! The ref didn’t see it!
Shannan Lerch: God, how many times can a guy cheat in one match?
Zach Davis: It’s only cheating if you get caught...
Shannan Lerch: You were the kid that stacked the deck in Candyland, weren’t you?
Dake Ken and Johnny Reb lock up in the middle of the ring. Johnny is clearly in trouble this time, and Dake isn’t about to let him weasel his way out of it. Dake Ken with a front facelock, nailing Reb with a vicious DDT. Ken pulls him up again and sets him up for a stalling piledriver.
Zach Davis: This may be lights out for Johnny Reb. I don’t know how much more of this he can take!
Shannan Lerch: Wages of sin, Zach... Here’s Dake Ken with the cover...
1 . . .
2 . . .
Thr – NO!
Zach Davis: Johnny Reb kicks out! That was close! Dake Ken looks shocked...
Johnny gets back on his feet again, dazed and unsteady. Dake charges at Reb, looking to finish this match once and for all, but Johnny recovers enough to nail him with a superkick! Dake Ken falls flat on his back. Reb wastes no time, sending Ken into the ropes with a catapult. Reb is there in a flash, using the ropes to choke his opponent, until the referee threatens him with a disqualification.
Reluctantly, Johnny Reb backs off, then charges across the ring, trying to take advantage of his momentum. Dake Ken, still holding onto the top rope, drops his weight, pulling the rope down with him and sending Johnny sailing to the outside.
Dake Ken follows Reb out and yanks him upright again before shoving him into the crowd barrier, much to the audience’s delight. Ken then prepares to slam Reb’s face into the guardrail, but Johnny manages to catch himself. He turns and kicks Dake in the midsection, doubling him over, then whips him against the ring apron. Johnny rolls him back into the ring...
Shannan Lerch: I don’t know how much more either of these two competitors can dish out. I’m not sure this is even a wrestling match anymore...
Zach Davis: I agree, Shannan. Isn’t it great? Where else can you see two grown men beating each other half to death, without either of them getting arrested?
Johnny Reb climbs the turnbuckle as Dake Ken starts getting up again. Ken looks up, and Reb launches himself into the air!
Zach Davis: Southern Discomfort! This is it! Reb hooks the leg…
Two and a half ...
The crowd erupts! They can't believe it!
Shannan Lerch: WHAT!
Zach Davis: JOHNNY REB HAS DONE IT! Johnny Reb is facing Torture for the World Title at Aftermath!
Everyone in the crowd is on their feet, they can't believe it. The ref raises Reb's hand, who smiles triumphantly. Dake is getting to his feet, shaking off cobwebs, not believing what has just taken place.
Shannan Lerch: Great match by both men.. besides Reb's cheating. These guys gave it their all, that's for sure.
Dake rolls out of the ring, leaving Reb to celebrate. The fans are getting over their initial shock of seeing the underdog win and are starting to boo Johnny Reb, who soaks it all in.
Zach Davis: Well fans, we'll see you next week.
Shannan Lerch: Goodnight!
Slam fades to black.
